Who is Tukaram Mundhe?
A 2005-batch IAS officer from Maharashtra cadre with a reputation for 9:45 AM surprise office checks, docked salaries for latecomers, and 25 transfers in 21 years — an average of under a year per posting. He's run Nashik and Nagpur municipal corporations, Navi Mumbai, the state health mission, and now, since May 2026, the Food & Drug Administration.
His FDA doesn't just sample the food — it inspects the process: floors, drains, fridges, records, pest control, staff training. Fail enough of Schedule 4 and the licence goes. Fix it, get reinspected, get it back. The Bombay High Court has pushed back on the "suspend first" approach more than once ("We are in India. Take a realistic approach"). In Sambhajinagar, hoteliers reportedly started inspecting their own kitchens before he could.
